Basics for Reading the Bible

In the Christian faith, the Holy Bible is seen as a guidebook to leading a faithful life, an account of God’s creation of the Earth from the very beginning, and a narration of the miracles of Jesus Christ. It is a sacred book that holds a collection of ancient religious writings.

The many books in the Bible can seem intimidating at first. You might not know where to start. Old Testament? New Testament? It can get confusing.

Here are a few steps to help you along the way.

Find a Bible Version that’s Best for You

  • There are several versions to choose from. The King James Version and English Standard Version are the most used. Pick one that’s easiest for you to read and comprehend.

Start Anywhere!

  • Unlike other books, the Bible doesn’t need to be read from very beginning. Start from any Gospel, like Luke, and go from there.

Annotate and Journal

  • See a line that resonates with you? Write it down! Mark pages with important passages and scriptures to read for later.

Dedication

  • Once you begin your journey, remain committed to finishing. Enjoy every passage and take time to understand the message behind it.
